The City of Fairview, Tennessee, has an immediate opening for the following position:
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Janitorial Worker is a full-time position responsible for cleaning and basic general maintenance in the following areas: Fairview city hall, the city’s parks system, the Williamson County Health Clinic (Fairview location), and various other locations owned or maintained by the City of Fairview.
Experience in a public services or commercial environment performing cleaning tasks, using commercial cleaning supplies, performing light maintenance duties, and possessing the ability to perform basic outdoor lawncare duties. Must possess a high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED). Must have the physical ability to perform all assigned duties. Must possess a valid Tennessee driver’s license. Must successfully pass a criminal background check, a pre-employment physical exam and a pre-employment drug screen.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Bathrooms – Clean and disinfect all surfaces, clean mirrors, restock soap, toilet paper and paper towels, sweep and mop floor, empty trash.
Offices – Empty trash and vacuum, dust unobstructed furniture.
Common areas, hallways and entry – Vacuuming, sweeping and/or mopping, clean glass, clean and sanitize any unobstructed surfaces.
Kitchens – Clean and disinfect all surfaces, restock soap and paper towels, sweep and mop floor, empty trash, clean appliances inside and out.
Building Exteriors – Maintain clean and clear accesses to all assigned buildings and clean accessible exterior windows.
Other general cleaning duties – Inventory and request orders of cleaning supplies by department, remove carpet spots, clean blinds, remove smudges from door jambs and doors, push plates, light switches and other unobstructed surfaces, clean accessible windows as needed, clean baseboards, wipe down walls and woodwork, buff floors.
Performs all related duties to maintain cleanliness and sanitary conditions at the specified locations.
Identify potential safety or maintenance issues and communicate them to management
Replace light bulbs, replace HVAC filters, and similar maintenance tasks.
Perform basic landscaping tasks such as weeding, edging, and clearing or removing landscaping debris.
Occasionally operate basic handheld or electric hand tools and basic gasoline or electrically powered lawncare equipment.
Assist public works crews with various essential and additional functions tasks at city events and unscheduled on-call events.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Must be able to operate a passenger motor vehicle, residential and commercial cleaning equipment, hand tools, lawncare equipment, telephone, cell phone, hand held radios, and other job-related equipment.
Requires the ability to understand, convey and/or exchange communications in written, verbal and visual form.
Requires the ability to communicate in verbal and written form any job-related documentation and reports with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech.
Requires the ability to make independent judgments in absence of supervision.
Requires the ability to recognize potential safety hazards and to mitigate safety hazards either temporarily or permanently.
Requires the ability to safely move or lift up to fifty (50) pounds and to have a full range of physical motion.
Requires the ability to discern color and smell.
Requires the ability to hear and perceive a nature of sounds by ear.
