Chipper Service and Leaf Removal Service

The city’s chipper and leaf services are intended assist homeowners in removing brush and similar debris resulting from residential landscaping maintenance and leaf removal resulting from basic homeowner leaf collection. Recently, improvements have been made to the services so that homeowners have a more reliable schedule for the chipper and leaf services.

The city has been divided into four (4) zones. Each of the four zones and the city-wide service zone map are on the tabs below. The zone chipper and leaf service routes are run on the first four Tuesdays of each month (There is no service on fifth Tuesdays). The chipper service runs from the first Tuesday in April through the fourth Tuesday in November. The leaf service runs from the first Tuesday in December through the fourth Tuesday in March. THE CITY DOES NOT RUN THE CHIPPER AND LEAF SERVICE AT THE SAME TIME.

If for any reason the chipper or leaf service cannot be run on the scheduled Tuesday the service will be run on the next business day that the service can be run. If either service cannot run on the scheduled Tuesday the service WILL NOT BE DELAYED TO THE FOLLOWING MONTH. Most delayed services will be resumed with forty-eight (48) hours.

The basic chipper service guidelines are as follows:

  1. Brush shall not be placed in any roadway median.

  2. Brush and debris to be processed must be residential landscaping brush and debris resulting from general landscaping maintenance and trimming.

  3. Brush shall be placed at the roadside of the residential address at which it was produced.

  4. The maximum brush pile size shall be three (3) feet high and ten (10) feet by ten (10) feet square and no more than one (1) brush pile may be set out for service at any one time.

  5. No limbs larger than four (4) inches in diameter will be processed.

  6. No vines, root balls, dirt, loose leaves, hay or straw will be processed.

  7. Brush intertwined with plastics, fabric, metal, wiring, cable, any fencing or similar foreign materials will not be processed.

  8. No household materials, appliances or similar items will be processed.

  9. No lot clearing debris or whole trees will be processed.

  10. No brush or debris produced by commercial or professional landscaping services, professional tree removal or professional tree trimming will be processed.

 

For the leaf service the City of Fairview will make available to it’s residents biodegradable lawn and leaf bags. The bags will be available in lots of ten (10) and there is no cost for the bags. Residents will have to sign a form providing their name and address at the time of bag pick up. Beginning on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, and until Monday, March 11, 2019, city residents will be able to pick up leaf bags at the following locations and times:

Fairview Public Works Building – 7111 Bowie Lake Road. 7:45 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Monday – Friday

Fairview Police Department – 7100 City Center Way. 7:45 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Monday – Friday

Fairview Fire Department – 7131 Bowie Lake Road. 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday – Saturday

 

The basic leaf service guidelines are as follows:

  1. Leaves are not to be deposited or piled in drainage ditches, drainage ways, or in any area where they may interfere with storm drain inlets or storm drain outlets.

  2. Leaves must be placed in biodegradable bags obtained from the City of Fairview.

  3. No vines, root balls or dirt will be processed.

  4. Leaves intertwined with plastics, fabric, metal, wiring, cable, any fencing, household garbage or similar foreign materials will not be processed.

  5. No limbs, branches, lot clearing debris, or leaves not placed in biodegradable bags obtained from the city will be processed.

  6. Leaves may not be placed out for pickup more than 14 DAYS prior to the next regularly scheduled zone leaf service date.

The zone chipper and leaf service routes are run as follows:

1st Tuesday of the Month – Zone 1

2nd Tuesday of the Month – Zone 2

3rd Tuesday of the Month – Zone 3

4th Tuesday of the Month – Zone 4
